The Contractors - Promo Art
I'm pleased to say today's post is related to my Contractors comic book series!
Just a quick promo style picture, not anything final, but it all inspires to get working on the main book.
I ran out of time today so I may still do a few its to finish it off, I may just redo the big guys arm from the wrist, as the angle looks a little wrong, and add some more shadow between the guys head and the wall, but aside from that all good.

Background Buildings by Paths
Today's post is a quick test of a method of creating buildings for backgrounds I learnt over the weekend.
First and foremost I must link to the video by Jonathan Rector, if you are a creator of comic books, or even just an artist for fun this video is a must watch - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmkB-C5U-n8

I won't go into the method itself, if you're interested then check out the video and all will be explained, but for now here's my first go at using this way of very quickly being able to create basic (or complex, the method could be used to create very detailed buildings if you wanted) but very effective buildings to use as backgrounds for city's in comic books.
Not including making the paths of the building façade (I'm not including this as the idea is to show how quickly you could do this once you had a library of different ones to use) it took around 10 mins to create this.
Working out all of the perspective and angles and hand drawing it all would have taken a whole lot longer doing it the traditional way!
It is only basic, but if you imagine a variety used in the background of an action shot you get the idea of the amount of time that can be saved on drawing.
Again, thanks Jonathan for another great tip, all your hard work creating the videos is appreciated!

Another little test added, this took around five minutes to make, and I'm now really getting excited about the potential time saving that this technique could bring!
This one is even less detailed than the last (I literally just threw the façades onto a box frame) and the view is a little "fish-eyed", but I think this example illustrates the use a little better than the first, as it was done even quicker and with less effort.
Once you start adding in all the other windows, and some other smaller details it will end up looking really good!

Judgement Time (Fan Art Friday Cont.)
I've cleaned up earlier's Judge Death sketch and added some bits and pieces to it to make it more of a complete picture.
I'm now really looking forward to getting some inking on the go, and I'm thinking I'll use a dip pen rather than a brush to do it. The reason being a brush will give too smooth a line and will lend a softened feel to the image, whereas a dip pen had a harder edge, and this character is definitely anything but soft!

Fan Art Friday - Judge Death

Fan Art Friday is here and this week I actually managed to get the drawing finished the day before!
This weeks image, as previewed yesterday is Judge Death from 2000AD's Judge Dredd and Judge Anderson PSI strips.
For now here is the pencil sketch I've completed, later on I'll post a slightly better image.
I won't have much time to spend on it today so nothing special, just some tidying up in Photoshop, but I'll have a go at hand inking this over the weekend and post the results when it's done.
Until then have a good day, the weekend is just hours away!

Fan Art Friday Preview
Hi All!
I decided to leave the last painting as it is, I messed around with some backgrounds but wasn't really feeling any of them so decided to call it done and move on.
As I am taking a break from working on tomorrows Fan Art Friday piece I thought I'd take a couple of photos and post them as a preview of what it'll be.
Judge Death from 2000AD's Judge Dredd, and Judge Anderson PSI strips is this weeks subject, and I've been having loads of fun drawing him so far!
I decided to go for a kind of zombie pose as he is dead after all, and I thought it'd give him a creepy feel too.
I've also decided that I'm going to give inking this by hand a go, it won't be done tomorrow as I'll be busy during the day, but I'll post the finished pencils tomorrow and then the inked version later, maybe over the weekend.
If I mess up the inks traditionally I can always do it digitally I guess!
I always forget to mention this for those not used to blogs, or indeed the web, but if you click on the images they will link to the full size versions, and the same goes for all other posts on the blog.

Caricature Step 04 - Light and Shade
Hi All!
Fan Art Friday was once again cancelled, time restrictions limited any artwork for several days so it was once again postponed until next week. But I do know what I want to do for then so that's at least a start!
Step Four of my Caricature was the light and Shade.
I have also since added the hair, more texturing has been done, and I've played around with the Hue and Saturation to make him look slightly less ill!
Only a short post today as it's Sunday and I want to relax!
The next step will be to decide what I want to add to finish this off, background and any other elements to complete the image. All of which I shall do tomorrow night.
Until then I hope you all have a relaxing Sunday.
