#Inktober Day 07

Late, again...

These weekday ones are both late, and pretty basic unfortunately, but after tonights one (Day 8) I'm going to make sure tomorrows has a little more effort put into it (I have a little more time thankfully!)

*Update*

Since posting this I've decided to continue #inktober on an every other day basis, this way I'll have much more time to put into creating more interesting and detailed drawings!
I'll post the pencils and inks separately, and any colour versions I'll add to the post with the inks.

Promethean Doodle.

Not going to post the basic inks on this one, as they're just not as good.

#Inktober Day 06

A little bit late....

I'm cheating a little bit with this one, I did the sketch in pencil last night and inked it this morning before work!

No need to explain who this is I'm guessing.

Going to sketch the next one out now, and ink it late tonight when i get home, hopefully it'll get posted today, if not I'll have to double post tomorrow instead.

#Inktober Day 05

Day Five People!

I messed up this evening by spending too long fiddling around adding colour to yesterdays post (Its been updated with the colour version below the original), and now I'm tired and wanting to do nothing but have a cup of tea, read, and go to bed.

But I promised myself I would stick to one ink drawing a day, and by gad I will do it!

So this one is about as simple as it gets, quick 2 minute sketch with only a 0.05 pen, and a coloured version.
I think I'll call it "Greaser".

Busy day tomorrow, so quite possibly another quick one, but I'll make up for it on the weekend with something more detailed.

Until then, happy #inking! Or alternatively happy whatever else you're doing...

#Inktober Day 04

#inktober day four, and Jack picked the wrong time to learn a new hobby....

Again this one will look better with colour, and I noticed I need to alter some of the shading, but kind of happy with it anyway.
I'm giving myself two hours per drawing for each of these, an hour for pencils, and an hour to ink, scan, clean up in PS and post.

Catch you later!

*Update*

Played around with some colours....

#Inktober Day 03

Greetings!

Day three of #inktober, this one was a lot of fun to draw, and I think I'm getting back into using pens again, it has been a long time as I like to use Photoshop for inking generally.

I'll definitely do a colour version of this one, tomorrow if I get time, but more likely on Monday evening.

Until then, have a great weekend all!

#Inktober Day 02

Hi Fair Readers,

Day two of #inktober brings a image I will call simply "Flying".

All of these drawings, for the whole month, will be done using Permanent Liners, with no additional work done on the pc apart from some levels work to better define the image and maybe some additional Gray wash on some.
This way it forces you to commit to the linework with no undo button to use!
If I do grey washes, or colour versions after I'll add it below the original image and update the post.

I'm hoping the drawings will get better with each day, and hopefully with more detail and improved quality all round.

*Update*

Below is a quick colour paint over in Photoshop for fun.

#Inktober Day 01

Hi Blog browsers!

I've decided to give #inktober a go this year, for those who don't know, it was started by a guy called Jake Parker in 2009 as a way to motivate himself and improve his art skills, and it took off and is now a global yearly event.
The idea is to do an ink piece of art, each day of the month of October.
Pretty simple really!
Hopefully I'll stick to it and have 31 inked drawings to show for it in a months time.

For more info on Jake please check out his website here - http://mrjakeparker.com

I need to get back into ink work, so just a small quick one for day one, with no real plan or reason, just a doodle.

See you tomorrow for day twos piece!

Comic Work Update 03

Salutations browsers of the internet!

Its been a while (again) since my last post, but I've not been lazy!
Day jobs been hard as the temperatures been on the rise, but I've still managed to get some sketching in at lunch, and getting some work done on the comic book I'm working on in the evenings.

This morning I've been working on the main building, a Greenwich Village apartment block that the first issue is based in and around, and to save time later down the line, and because I enjoy it, I've built a model of it in Sketchup.
This will save hours of working out perspective when it comes to drawing exterior scenes!
Its obviously not completely finished at the moment, I have some decisions to make on the ground floor before its done, but thought I'd share it anyhow.

Enjoy your day people!

Comic Work Update

Hi to all peoples of the Internets,

Been busy of late with day job shenanigans, but have also been in talks about doing the art for a book with someone I met through said day job!
I'll be putting my own personal project on hold (well, working on it when I can) whilst working on this story, it's a great tale and I'm looking forward to getting my teeth into it.
I won't be able to post anything here which could be a potential spoiler to the story itself, but I will post character sketches and other related planning bits when I can.

Many thanks to James and Sharan for the opportunity!

Here's some character sketches I did for them for one of the main characters, this served as a basis to begin getting the style they were looking for.

More to come soon, and I'm very much looking forward to working on it....

AWESOME SAUCE!

Lost - Character Studies

Hi random web surfers and returning visitors alike,

I've continued with the character studies, but wanting to mix it up a bit decided to move onto another of my favourite shows, Lost.
This page will again be updated as and when i add new drawings of the cast.
I decided to pick a character to start with that would transition nicely from the previous series of The Wire to the new set from Lost, and so below is Sgt. Daniels (The Wire) / Michael Abaddon (Lost). (And as an added bonus, Broyles from Fringe).

I won't add this into The Wire series page as it would be cheating, but his face's got a lot of character so I may draw him again sometime but in his Police Uniform.

I will be continuing with more from The Wire in future, and indeed other shows and films I love too, as doing these is really good to practice and learn from, and I will also be expanding in some cases to full body shots/action sequences (most likely for the film side of things).

Until next time...

The Wire - Character Studies

Hi all,

I decided to do a post with all the character study sketches I do of characters from The Wire, and keep updating this one post with future ones I create.
No sense in having tons of posts of one subject.
So at the time of posting there will be two from the last post included (which I've now deleted) plus this mornings one, which is Marlow.
This is mainly just practising Comic Book style sketches and not for any other particular reason, but The Wire has a nice assortment of interesting characters and is a good base of reference to use.

So until the next update, enjoy whatever you're up to!

Sketch for Inking

Second Post of the day!

After posting earlier I decided to do another sketch to use for inking practice and got a little carried away, the pencils ended up being a little tighter than I'd planned!
I thought I'd post it anyway, in the pencils stage, this is Eddie one of the characters in the story I'm working on, or at least an image of what he might look like. I used a photo of my own face as reference so the final character will most likely end up being a little thinner than I am.

Again, I'm off to do some more practising whilst I have some time spare, days off are great fun but never last as long as the ones when at work....

Young Bigby

Happy New Year!

I've been playing about in Manga Studio today, trying to get use to the layout and the feel of it, had this pencil sketch of a young Bigby from Vertigo's Fables lying about so thought I'd put it to some good use.
The final image is digital ink over the original sketch, I liked the way it looked so left the rough pencil underneath to add some texture, after that it's taken into Photoshop to have some greys added too.
I really want a Cintiq of some sort, drawing on a graphics tablet is just to disconnected. I know you do get use to it the more you use one, but being able to draw straight onto the screen would be a wonder! Anyhow, for now practice is needed...

Catch you all soon!
