Machine Line art

Line art of the other days "Sneak Peek", what's quite ridiculous is that most of this will be in shadow around the outside in the finished picture!
For now I'm just calling this "The Machine" so as not to give away any plot details.

Going to work on the shadows, then flats (in grey tone) now.
I think I'll take a break from this tomorrow and work on something different, then back to this at the weekend.

Hellboy Quick Sketch

Not had much time over the past couple of days so nothing substantial to post.
Although it's not Friday, I did a quick Fan art sketch of Hellboy earlier, so that will have to suffice for today!
Will have some more Contractors related artwork tomorrow with a bit of luck.

Concept Art Session

Had a bit of a concept art session this evening, trying out several different techniques to get the look I wanted for a certain group of characters within my story.
Although they are very simple in design at the moment they also need to have a particular feel about them.
This is because they won't always look this way, and they need to be recognisable at that point too, without the reader being directly told who they are. And they won't have the glow about them at that point either!

More on these guys later, as there are quite a few different types of them, and I still may alter them more, to further enhance them.

Sneak Peek 02

Second post of the day, and the second sneak peek....
I'll say no more than that for now!

Have a good "rest of weekend" all!

Sneak Peek 01

Today's post is a sneak peek at what I've been working on on and off for the past few days, it relates directly to my Contractors series, but will be featured far more in a Maxi-series that will both run parallel and follow it.
It's my first bit of 3d work in over a year, but within the Contractors and the other series it will actually be hand drawn. The reason to build it in 3d first is so as to save time working out angles etc when it comes to it being drawn multiple times. I will also do this for a couple of buildings and vehicles that are reused a lot.
It's not fully finished, there's more cables and machines to be added to the room, but the basics are there.

As for an explanation as to what it is, you'll just have to read the series once it's done! It will be quite easy to guess what it might do for a lot of people, but getting it exactly right, I can tell you that would be extremely unlikely.

Fan Art Friday - Battle damaged Iron man

Fan art Friday!

I've limited time for drawing today but I wanted to make sure I posted at least one fan art related image, so here is a paint over I've just been messing around with, on a 3d model of Iron man's helmet, which I made a while back. Just a bit of battle damage and dirt.
Hopefully I'll get time to sketch something at some point during the day and post again later on.
Hope you all have a great day!

The Contractors - Logo

I've been playing around with the logo for my Contractors series today, and I think I'm happy with it so far.
I may make a few more tweaks to it before I say it's fully done, but for now it's pretty much good to go.
I wanted to keep it as simple as possible, but also have it look good in a variety of different colours, which after several tests I think it works. The reason for this is that it has no border around it, so when placed over artwork for a front cover it can be altered to still stand out from the image behind.
Also the colours can be changed to match the mood of the issue, and help portray the events in the book before you've even opened the front page!

Dave - Colours

Post three today is the colour version of today's Dave - Fighting Stance picture, and I have to say it really was fun colouring this!

Have a good evening all! (Day/afternoon/middle of the night if you aren't in the uk!)

Dave - Fighting stance

Second post of the day!

This is the character Dave (from my last post) in more the style he will be drawn in when I draw him within the graphic novel.
He may be old but he can still look after himself!
He is the second half of a two man assassin duo, he is the stealthy, weapon and military expert, along side his partner who is the steroid pumped, brash, beer drinker.
Both are born and bred Yorkshireman, and together they are just a small part of the team that make up the Contractors.

Colour version to come later on...

Dave (Quick Sketch)

I didn't get to post this last night as it got a bit late but this was yesterday's second post, Dave.
He's a character from my graphic novel series I'm currently working on, although he won't be drawn in this style in that, this was just a quick sketch to get his features and proportions down.

Speeder Bike Paintover

Today's first post isn't a sketch or doodle as such, it's a paint over I've been playing about with of a Speeder bike I made in 3d.
It was made for a 3d modelling competition which was held a while back through the website SimplyMaya.com.
I actually won the comp (most pleased!) so thought it would be a good model to try my hand at doing a paint over on.
All that has been added is the colour, and the dirt, mud and scratches.
Not too bad for a first attempt, maybe I'll look at doing more to this at some point, but for now I want to do some drawing!, so hopefully there'll be a second post later on today.

Ebony - Coloured

Fan art Friday continues with my second post of the day!
I couldn't resist so here's the final coloured version of my Ebony picture from earlier.

Enjoy!

Fan Art Friday - Ebony from Elephantmen

It's the first official Fan art Friday on my blog! Yay!
This week I decided to draw Ebony from Richard Starkings excellent series Elephantmen.
For anyone who is into sequential art and has not yet heard or read it (shame on you, it's great!) here is a link to the Wikipedia entry - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elephantmen

I had planned to do a Sci-Fi picture yesterday but didn't get around to it, so this has kind of linked that and Fan art Friday  as the series is Sci-Fi and has been described by many as baring a close similarity to Blade Runner in ways.

Anyhow for now, hope you enjoy it, and onwards onto the next piece for me!

It's Knight time

Today's drawing took a little longer to finish as I spent more time cleaning it up in Photoshop than usual, I may as well just inked it really! lol
The subject of the drawing is a Medieval Knight (or whatever these infantry/foot soldier types were called back then, anybody know?)
There is one purposeful mistake in the drawing and that is the sword, I don't believe this kind of fighter would have had this kind of sword, but I just thought it looked cooler this way, who knows, maybe he lost his in battle and picked this one up off of a fallen comrade.
I'm thinking a Sci-Fi element to the next piece, so we'll see how that goes when I get onto it!

Merry Tuesday and a happy New Wednesday to all.

The Martial Arts

Today's doodling done. Time to relax!
Today's subject - Martial artist, good practice for clothing folds as they wear baggy trousers!

Pencil sketch, digital inks.

The Don!

Today's sketch was inspired by a video on Youtube I watched by a great artist called Jonathan Rector , who makes some really cool "how to" drawing tutorials, check them out if you're wanting to see some comic book awesomeness being created!
You can find his videos here - http://www.youtube.com/user/jonathanrector

Anyhow, I'd just finished watching one that was based on drawing the Ninja Turtles and felt inspired to get the pencil going!
Here's the result, I will probably do an inked version in Photoshop at some point too.

Also, all this gave me the idea, and motivation, to try doing some more recognisable characters more often, so from next week I shall be having Fan-art Fridays.
Hopefully I'll have the time each week to do at least one piece of Fan art, even if it's only a quick sketch.
Happy weekend to all, hope you have a good one!

Found Beaten - Inks

I couldn't resist throwing today's drawing into Photoshop for some quick inking and playing about...
I'm done for today, hopefully something new tomorrow!

Found Beaten

I started out today with no plan to do a full drawing, and the intention of sketching some different types of hair for practice.
This somehow turned into an illustration that hasn't got the best drawn hair at all. (I didn't really spend any time trying to get the hair looking good in the end!) I got all involved with foreshortening and creases in clothing and before I knew it I had no other choice but to keep going!
Oh well, maybe I'll get back to the hair practice tomorrow. lol

For now this is today's doodling result....

The Almost Dead Undead....

Today's doodlings results!
I started out wanting to draw a traditional Vampire, but as I drew out some wrinkles decided it'd be fun to make him an old age Vamp,
The almost dead undead....

Breaking Up

To start off my blog I would like to show the last piece of art I completed, which was this comic book test panel for my (hopefully upcoming) comic series "The Contractors".
Will be updating more of this soon.
