Day Job work
It's been ages!
I haven't had much time to post anything this past month, mostly due to 3d work for my day job, and playing too much PS3....
But I have been writing still, and happily progress with my story is still going strong, hopefully lots more will be done and show-able over the holiday period. I'm going to get sketching now as I've finished any urgent design work for the day, and am very much looking forward to it, it's been too long!
For now here's my latest natural playground design for anyone who fancies a look. At the moment it's just a big rectangle of rubberised flooring, so hopefully the kids'll get something more interesting if we get the job.
Catch you all soon!

A little Update on progress....
Just a quick update on what's what at the moment, I have decided to delete the page I had on this blog for my graphic novel/comic book series, and have created a second blog that will be dedicated to that work alone. It can be found at - http://bewarethevoid.blogspot.co.uk/
I'm currently working on some environment sketches, trying to get some concept art down for the locations in my story and generally just drawing as much as possible. I should have some bits to post here or on The Void blog soon.
My day job has been a lot of fun lately as I'm doing all my playground and play equipment designing in 3d now, so that's taking up a fair bit of time, but all in all progress is good.
Until next time, take it easy you lot!

The Scream-er
I nearly didn't get this done at all as I forgot all about it, but got painting yesterday and happily got it completed.
This years Halloween painting is semi-inspired by The Scream by Edvard Munch, but obviously with some (major) changes.
The rest of the week is going to be taken up by 3d work, so until next time, have a fun night tonight!

Daily Doodles #14
Spent an hour or so at the pub this afternoon as I had to get out of the house for a bit, and ended up sketching with my pint. It was fun!
Creative beer time sketching, and the start of a new sketchbook, all good!

Daily Doodles #13
To mark the completion of another sketchbook I thought I'd do a bumper sized Daily Doodles today, this is a few bits from the past two weeks sketching.
The image will be best viewed on a monitor rather than a mobile, as you'll need to zoom in to view it properly.
Click the Image for large size.
Take it easy people and enjoy a relaxing Sunday if you can!

Halloween Pic Sneak Peek
Just thought I'd post a picture of my Halloween picture for this year, still very much a work in progress.
The fingers need the most work, hopefully they'll look okay once finished.
Not sure if it'll stay pencil, be inked, or maybe painted in Photoshop, but I'm sure it'll be fun whatever the case!
Catch you all soon!

Morning Light
Messing around with some digital painting today, trying to practice 3 things I don't practice enough of, drawing women, hair, and pictures with contrasting light.
It doesn't look too bad viewing it on a phone! Not so good on a full size screen but getting there.
Onward to do some actual work for the day now!
Catch you all soon!

No need for a mask
It's been awhile!
Thought I'd do some sketching this afternoon, and this evil child appeared on the paper, he most definitely won't be needing a mask this Halloween!
Back soon with some more sketchings....

Playground Model Complete
Just posting the final image of the model I made for clients at my day job.
It was a bit rushed at the end as I had to finish it by 4pm but got there in the end.
I will most definitely go back to this in the future and work on the texturing more, it sucks!
Have a good one people, I'm off on holiday for a week, see you then!

Day Job Work - Nature Playground Design
Not a usual type post today!
As I'm doing something I find fun at work today I thought I'd share my progress.
I've already designed several playground areas for a nursery in Guildford, and one of them is a nature garden.
Part of the outdoor space is very thin (see photo below) and could be troublesome to do much with, but luckily I actually knew pretty much straight away what I wanted to put in there.
I've already drawn out the layout from a birds eye view and am now building the area in 3d, so the client can better see what will be included.
It should hopefully be quite easy to work out, raised decking area, seating, planters for growing etc.
It will be far more detailed when completed, with a bit of luck!!
I don't often need to do this (build the gardens in 3d) as I can usually explain and show with sketches what will be done, but as it's quite an involved amount of work this time I thought I'd be a good ide to do it this way. And fun too!
I'll post the final model once completed.
For now I'm off for some lunch!

The Change
This morning I felt like drawing Vampires, so I did.
Wanted to try out something different when it came to the hair too, so went with this random squiggle style!
Might try out a colour version of this later on or tomorrow.
Also, this will count as next weeks Daily Doodles, slow week!

Daily Doodles #11
I've decided that instead of trying to post a daily doodle every single day, which just isn't an option as some days I just don't have time to upload, or I simply just don't draw anything!, I will condense the better doodles of a whole week onto a page and post my daily doodles that way.
So without further ado, here's a few doodles from the past 7 days....

Daily Doodle #8
Daily Doodle #8, another page of random heads and a victim of the terrible toilet paper tornado.
Thursday, 8 August 2013
Daily Doodle #7
Yesterday's daily doodle, as it just wasn't getting scanned at 11pm last night!
Various heads, sketched in the park.

Daily Doodle #5
Sorry for the gap in doodles, I will endeavour to improve my tardiness!
Daily Doodle #5, no clue who he is or what he's doing.
I'm calling it "Hammer Time".
Thursday, 1 August 2013
Daily Doodle #4
Combining yesterday and today as I sketched the head last night and the hand today, Daily Doodle #4, which I will call simply - "advice".
Slightly poor quality scan as the work scanner sucks.
Catch y'all later!

Daily Doodle #3
Daily Doodle #3 - Demon guy, I sketched various other characters tonight but this was the only one that didn't suck too much!
Will be spending much time on trains tomorrow and that usually results in more interesting sketches, so until then adiós!
Daily Doodle #2
Hope you're all well!
Yesterdays daily doodle, I drew it late last night and couldn't be bothered to turn the pc on to scan it.
Character sketch for my graphic novel series.
Better get onto today's doodle!

Daily Doodle #1
Hi guys (again),
I was thinking of what I wrote in my last post and the first couple of lines annoyed me.
I don't want work and other everyday activities to become an excuse for a lack of creativity.
Because, as much as I say these other things have taken up my time, all that really is is an excuse.
I have been creatively lazy!
So, from today I shall be forcing myself to draw at least one sketch everyday, and post it here, however crap I think it may be, in an attempt to cull this lull in productivity.
If I am unable to post for any reason I shall still draw, then post multiple days worth at one time.
I shall still be working on my graphic novel in both writing and art, and drawing other things too, but this should at least get me on a creative roll so I am at no point fully distracted for a whole day.
I will aim to do this permanently, so fingers crossed I can keep this going.
So here is the #1 in a hopefully ongoing series of daily doodles!
Random character doodle.
I saw a supervillain on the Tube!
I haven't posted for a while as my creative time is, as it has been for quite a while, very limited due to work.
But I have been working on my graphic novel series when I can, including during my day job when possible!
So things have been productive still I'm pleased to say.
I was on the tube (London Underground for those who may not know what that is) yesterday and I saw what can only be described as an evil genius!
He most likely wasn't an actual super villain, plotting to overthrow entire planets with the use of elaborate schemes, but his face, and actual head shape just screamed EVIL GENIUS!
I would like to have asked if I could take a photo to post, but have a slight inclination he may have taken offence to that proposal once he was given the reasoning behind it....
So I just did a quick sketch of him, and I must say, it really is very much a good likeness!
His head was actually this shape, and I have not exaggerated it much at all.
So if you are travelling on the Underground and you see this man, beware!

Doodling in the sunshine
Just thought I'd post this random doodle, sitting in the sun on what is the hottest day of the year so far here in London.
I started off with an eye and it kind of carried on until this guy was drawn!
Sorry for the quality, not at home so no scanning I'm afraid.

Grosvenor
This guy is called Grosvenor, and he's (without giving away too much of the story) basically a kind of hunter, and most definitely a Nomad.

Another building design started
Was feeling in a constructive mood so started on another building design, this time a 3 level one.
I'm going to try and keep it in style with the last, meaning it will be set in the same same city.
I'm using Sketchup for this modelling, as it lends itself quite well to structures that are mostly right angles, the buildings that are set in the other main world of my story are more curved and smooth, so I will be using Maya to model those ones.
None of these models will be used for anything but reference really, or possibly for setting up scenes to be printed out and traced over using a lightbox.
I'll be continuing this building during the week after work so will update it's progress soon.
Have a nice Sunday people!

Building design
Working in 3d really is fun, I must do it more!
Until next time, hope you all have a great weekend.

Distractions from Art
Just wanted to post two pictures today, but not of artwork as I usually would!
The past two months have been mostly about work, leaving me pretty much no time for drawing, or 3d work at all.
But I shouldn't complain, the rent's getting paid!
I thought I'd post to photo's of what has been taking up my time, a large project that involved the design and construction of two large playground/garden areas in a nursery.
I oversaw the entire project, from consultations with the clients on what they wanted, I designed the areas, project managed the actual work with a team of 4 tradesmen, and finished off by doing the planting and then the paperwork!
It was a fun project, but I'm glad to be back having a little more time for drawing again, and time to work on my graphic novel series.
These two photo's are panoramic, so click on them and scroll to zoom in and check them out.
I'll be back soon with some art related updates, until then, keep creative people!

Fan Art Friday - Swamp Thing
Work has led me to have minimal time for drawing over the past couple of months, that along with moving, and various other distractions, but I'm pleased to say I managed to get an hours sketching in this afternoon. One of which was of DC comic's Swamp Thing, and as it's Friday I thought I'd post it!
I am happy to say I have been working on the character and plot development of my graphic novel series with steady progress being made, so although I may not be able to draw whilst walking and commuting each day I can still be creative!
I shall be updating again soon, and more frequently from now on, so until then keep well and keep creative!

Alternate Universe Me
I've not had much time over the past week to do anything creative, but thought I'd at least do a quick half hour sketch to try and get back into the swing of things.
Here is Alternate Universe evil me, with longer hair!
I'm going to try to get some more drawing done later this week, and hopefully have something half decent for Fan Art Friday.
Take it easy people, if you can!

Scarecrow Sketch - Inked
Due to the holiday period, and me deciding to take a break and play some PS3, here is a belated Fan Art Friday sketch that I actually completed yesterday but had to wait for the ink to dry before I could scan it.
It's The Scarecrow from DC Comics Batman!
Done with Dip pen, brush and India Ink on Bristol Board.
I may do some more sketching later but my main plan for today as it's a bank holiday here in the UK is to get some gaming done, relax and eat chocolate!
Have a great day everyone!

Dave (Warm up Quick Sketch)
Not been all together that productive art wise for the past couple of days, but I am going to try and do something constructive tonight if possible.
This here is my warm up sketch, Dave from my Contractors series I'm developing.
Still not decided on a style that should be used for the series as a whole so the characters aren't final as yet appearance wise. Though saying that Dave seems to always appear in my head pretty much the same way each time. And this kinda of sketchy style does feel nice so maybe a more honed version of this might be the way to go!

Pennywise the Dancing Clown
It's had a little Photoshop adjustment to get the levels looking better but aside from that it's just pencils on paper in my sketchbook.
It was loads of fun to do, now onto something new!

Fan Art Friday - Pennywise Melt WIP
This one won't get finished today, most likely tomorrow morning, but for now here's a photo of where I'm at with it.
Will update here and there on this post, then post the final image in an second post.
*Update*
Little bit further with it, will continue when I get in later.
*Update 02*
Bit more done this morning, mostly on his hand.
*Update 03*
On the home stretch now, just the balloons to shade, then go over everything again to tighten up the lines and I'll call this done! Also, this is a good example of why I save up all the graphite from sharpening my pencils.
Fan Art Friday - Pennywise
This week for Fan Art Friday I decided to sketch Pennywise the Clown from Stephen Kings classic horror IT.
That's all for now, might sketch something else later on so maybe I'll pick a second subject and post the results of that. Or I might do a full body sketch of Pennywise from a distance, with some balloons.
We'll see how I feel about that after lunch!
If not it'll just be anatomy study's over the weekend.
Have a good Friday!
Photoshopped version -

Anatomy Study - Ninja Guy
I've been feeling a little under the weather so taking it easy in general and just playing PS3 and catching up on tv shows!
Hopefully should be something better tomorrow for Fan Art Friday.
Catch y'all then!

I Know You're In There!
Another day another drawing! Today just a quick sketch I did this morning, in a fish eye stylee!

Sketching - Swimwear Model...
Have a good Sunday everyone!
Sketching - Torso and Leg
I have decided that as I only have a couple of hours on a Saturday and Sunday morning to draw, I will in future just be sketching on those days.
So it will be Sketch Saturday and Sketch Sunday from now on!
I'm wondering if I can come up with some other themes for each day of the week that work using the same later as each day, maybe Magical Mondays (Fantasy art) Weird Wednesdays (strange art) etc...
For now this was this mornings sketching, today the leg and torso were my chosen anatomical study subjects!

Sketching - Arm Studys
I wasn't sure whether to post today, as all I'm doing in sketching.
But then it occurred to me this blog does have the word "Sketching" in the title, so it would be a little silly if all I ever posted was finished pictures, or work in progress towards finished pictures!
I decided when I sat down to start drawing today to not work on anything in particular, but instead to spend some time studying anatomy.
Like all things, practice and training are needed to improve and progress closer to your potential, athletes run and need nutrients from food, Artists need to sketch and drink coffee!
I often spend a short while sketching but it's not often I dedicate a whole days art to study alone.
But this is something I know I should do far more, so today is the first of many study sessions.
Maybe I should just dedicate all of my Saturdays and Sundays to sketching and studying, and along with "Fan Art Friday" have "Sketching Saturdays" and "Study Sundays"!
Well, we'll see, the main thing is this blog was started to help motivate me to draw more, and to aid me in improving, and so far it's working 100% !
Anyhow, here is this mornings sketching, I figured I need more practice on the muscle anatomy of the arm so it was as good a place to start as any.

Fan Art Friday - V for Vendetta
Just a quick one before I hit the sack.
I meant to post this earlier, but the ink was still wet so couldn't scan it in time before I went out.
This weeks Fan Art Friday piece is a multi mixed medium one!
The subject, V, from Alan Moore's classic - V for Vendetta.
Pen, brush and India ink on Bristol Board, followed by some cropping, adjusting and adding in Photoshop to finish it off.
